Adolph Gozelski was born in June 1873 in Poland or Russia. Josephine Okula (1873-1936). Josephine is also known as Josie. She was born in Russia.
According to Rene Gozelski North, granddaughter of Lillian Strauss, Adolph and Josephine came to the United States at different times in 1896. Adolph came first. Josephine was pregnant and, possibly, her preganancy forced her to come later. Sometime while still in Russia/Poland or while on the ship coming to America, Josephne lost the baby. The baby never had a name and is referred to in documents as "Baby Gozelski."
Virginia Lubowiecki, before she died, said that she remembers hearing that the baby died on the ship.
They lived on 20a Herricks Road, Willston Park. Their children were:
John Joseph Gozelski (1900-1956)
Helen Pelkowski (1902-1945)
and William George Gozelski (1910-1977)
Adolph's siblings were:
Michaelina Gozelski (1876-1930)
Pavel Gozelski (1879-?)
Stanley Gozelski (1880-?) of Glen Cove
Vincent Gozelski (1884-1945) of New Hyde Park
Adolph died of pneumonia on January 21, 1945. Josephine died about 1936. Both are buried in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY.
NOTE: Adolph Gozelski may be a Junior—his father was named Adolph Gozelski (1845-?) and his last name is alternatively spelled Gorzelski in Poland. The 1845 Adolph was baptized in Tykocin, Poland.
