Lillian Strauss was born on March 15, 1906 in Long Island City, New York to parents Michael and Johanna Strauss.
John Joseph Gozelski was born in 1900 to father Adolph Gozelski. The Gozelskis were a potato farming family. John's brother William ("Bill") was ten years younger. The brothers John and William Gozelski met sisters Lillian ("Lil") and Johanna ("Jane") Strauss sometime in the mid-1920s. John and Lil married on February 24, 1926. Jane and Bill married on January 29, 1933, seven years later.

Both families lived in the East Northport area and worked the Gozelski farm. Sometime after the death of their father Adolph on January 21, 1945, Jane and Bill moved to Hornell, New York to start their own potato farm.
John died on March 21, 1956. After John's death, Lil sold the farm.
Lillian would live on for 33 years without him. She died on October 3, 1989 from cancer, and is buried in Holy Rood Cemetary, Westbury, New York.
