Cremations

These are people who did not have their ashes placed in a cemetery.

Dorothy Pogozelski Eichler and Nick Eichler asked for their ashes to be spread at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY.

Veronica “Ronnie” Lubowiecki Melamud's ashes are entrusted to her sister Kerriann.

Stanley and Ginger Lubowiecki's ashes will be spread at Mt Washington in New Hampshire.

Hugh Dennis McEneaney died on March 28, 2014 and was cremated. His ashes were spread at Jones Beach.

Infant mortality/Young age deaths

Salmone Strauss was born in October 1888. She died on October 10, 1907 at the age of 18. We don't know the cause of her death, but like her infant cousins Michael and Vincent who died less than a year later, infectious diseases were a leading cause in 1907 and 1908.

Vincent and Michael Strauss were twins born to parents Michael and Johanna Strauss. They died at 3 months old in 1908. We don't know the cause of their deaths, but in 1908, a leading cause of infant death was infectious diseases such as TB, scarlet fever and diphtheria.

Franciszek “Frank” Strauss was born on December 1, 1894 to parents Michael and Johanna Strauss. He died on July 27, 1915 at age 21 after being kicked by a horse. We think he was the first child of Michael and Johanna.

Edward Pogozelski was born in 1927 to parents Anthony and Hedwig Pogozelski. He was killed on July 23, 1934 at age 7 by an accidental shotgun firing at the Gozelski farm on Clay Pitts Road in East Northport, New York. He is buried in Holy Rood Cemetery with his parents.

James Gozelski was born to parents Johanna (Jane) and William in 1938 in Huntington Station, New York. He died in childbirth and is buried in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, New York. He is buried with Lillian, John, Adolph, Josephine, and David Gozelski. His name doesn't appear on the gravestone but he's listed in the cemetery's records as "Baby Boy".

David Michael Gozelski was born on December 11, 1948 to parents William and Johanna Gozelski. He died on June 2, 1956 in Hornell, New York while in 3rd grade. He fell his off bicycle and hit his head on the Arkport Dam, and drowned. He is buried in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, New York.
