John J. Gozelski III was born on July 4, 1952 to parents John J. Jr and Una Gozelski. He worked at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY in the Department of Facilities Management.

His wife is Sonoka. They had no children. He worked at Adelphi University. He died on December 20, 2011 and is buried at Northport Rural Cemetery

Sonoka was born and raised in Fukuoka, Japan to parents who owned a flower shop. She came to the U.S. in 1997 and lived on Long Island, where she presumably met her husband John. In 2016, she moved to Central New York with her pit bull mix Hobo.

Sonoka is an artist specializing in mixed-media collage art. Her website is Sonoka County, which she calls her art venture. She participates in art shows in Central New York, such as Art by the Lake sponsored by the Fenimore Art Museum.
