Fitzmaurice Flying Field

The Fitzmaurice Flying Field was located in Massapequa Park, Long Island. The field was east of Roosevely Ave, west of 2nd Ave, south of Spruce St, and north of Smith St. Lindbergh Street was one block south. It opened on May 11, 1929 to a crowd of over 50,000 people.

The field had two runways. 1,500-foot north-south runway. The airfield closed in 1953.

An ariel photo from 1942 shows the streets surrounding the flying field. The blocks are still covered in trees. The building boom that caused the demise of the airfield occurred after WWII ended.
