Anthony Pogozelski Jr

This is an interview with Anthony Pogozelski about his service during World War II. He served in the 59th Naval Construction Battalion.

Danny Williams

Danny was a E5 Sergeant from September 13, 1967 to September 10, 1971. He served in Vietnam at the DaNang Air Base and Phu Bai Air Base. Danny was involved in aircraft recovery via SATS (Short Airfield Tactical Support). This involved tailhooks and arrestor wires.

Stanley Lubowiecki

Stanley served in Germany.

Leon Lubowiecki

Leon served from January 23, 1951 to January 22, 1953 in US 51 080 517 Corporal Battery D, 601st Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. He was in the inactive reserves for five years afterward.

He was working for Liberty Aircraft when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. His rank was corporal and he initially trained to be a Paratrooper. Because of problems with his feet, his paratrooper training was cancelled and he went into artillery.

He attended training at Fort Bliss, Texas from September 1951 to November 1951. This was followed by a tour of duty at Fort Devins, Massassachusetts where he acquired skills as a machinist. After leaving the Army in January 1953, he got a job as a machinist on Long Island.

Lee is buried in Calverton National Cemetery in Section 52A, Site 1590.

Edwin J. Morton

Edwin is a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was decorated with the Bronze Star.

Alfred S Strauss

U.S. Army Sgt, injured by artillery shell. Service Start Date: 20 Feb 1941. Service End Date 22 Aug 1945.

Simon Weisman

While technically not part of the Strauss family tree, Simon Weisman (1917-1991), father of Merry Weisman Sawicki (wife of Ed Sawicki Jr), served in India during World War II as a civilian contractor working for Republic Aviation Corp of Farmingdale, New York. He provided P-47 fighter aircraft to Claire Chennault's AVG Flying Tigers. The Flying Tigers became part of the 14th Air Force in 1942 and Chennault became a brigadier general.
